Spokane parish continues blood donations
the Inland Register
(From the June 10, 2010 edition of the Inland Register)
Spokane’s St. Peter Parish completed their first of two semi-annual blood drives, one of the most successful ever, on Sunday, May 16.
Since these drives began in 2000, parishioners have given more than 900 units of blood for distribution to the community served by the Inland Northwest Blood Center. INBC serves the needs of more than 30 hospitals in the region with 70 percent of its donations coming from mobile blood drives. Others give at the main center located at 210 W. Cataldo Ave., Spokane, as well as at satellite centers in Coeur d’Alene and Lewiston, Idaho, and Moses Lake, Wash.
Each unit of blood goes to help up to three individuals, which means that St. Peter parishioners have given the gift of life to approximately 3,000 recipients.
While the drive at St. Peter is among the top three or four at a church of any denomination in the INBC service area, many other parishes in the diocese also hold drives.
For information on how to get a drive started or how parishioners can donate at INBC to assure a supply for themselves and fellow parishioners in an account dedicated to the parish, contact INBC at 800-423-0151, or Jim Mansfield, chairman of the St. Peter blood drive, at 536-7752.
