Clarkston school awarded grant for facilities upgrades
the Inland Register
(From the Aug. 19, 2010 edition of the Inland Register)
Holy Family School in Clarkston, Wash., has announced that it is the recipient of an $180,000 grant from the E.L. Wiegand Foundation for upgrades to the school’s gymnasium.
Improvements will include a new heating and cooling system, stage lighting and truss system, and stage enclosure, with new stage curtains.
The grant also includes a portable classroom project, interactive panel, projector, classroom divider, and gymnasium floor covers. The total amount for the multi-purpose room enhancements is $180,255.94.
The gymnasium at Holy Family School is actually a former Navy barracks from Farragut Naval Station near Hayden, Idaho, dating back to World War II. After the war, several Holy Family parishioners heard that the building would be dismantled and decided to purchase the materials and bring them to Clarkston. The building was reconstructed to provide extra room for new classrooms and a gymnasium for the school.
According to Maribeth Richardson, Holy Family’s principal, the latest renovations will be a great improvement for the structure and make it more available for the school and parish for class instruction and community events.
