Father Venneri completes chaplain certification renewal
the Inland Register
(From the Aug. 19, 2010 edition of the Inland Register)
Father Michael D. Venneri, a priest of the Spokane Diocese who serves full-time as priest-chaplain at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, Spokane, recently completed his renewal of certification with the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC).
Through the action of its Certification Commission, the NACC is authorized to certify according to the certification standards and procedures approved by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Commission on Certification and Accreditation. Certification attests to both professional competence and endorsement for ministry by the official Church.
For certification renewal, a person demonstrates competence in the areas of Theory of Pastoral Care, Identity and Conduct, Pastoral skills and Professionalism. Fifty documented education hours in each of the four areas of competence, the application for requesting recertification, endorsement by the local bishop, and a peer review are submitted to the NACC review board before renewal is granted. Recertification is good for five years.
Father Venneri, a native of Walla Walla, was ordained to the priesthood June 25, 1982. He has ministered at Sacred Heart since November 1994.
He also served as associate pastor of Our Lady of Fatima, St. Francis Xavier, and St. Patrick parishes in Spokane, and St. Mary Parish, Spokane Valley, and as pastor of St. Rose of Lima Parish, Cheney. (IR file photo)
