Women’s healing retreat, day and eve of prayer set at IHRC
the Inland Register
(From the Sept. 9, 2010 edition of the Inland Register)
Immaculate Heart Retreat Center, 6910 S. Ben Burr Rd. in Spokane, is holding “Restoring Hope,” a women’s healing retreat, Friday-Sunday, Sept. 10-12.
Thea Loughery and Sarah Compton come to IHRC from Elijah House Ministries, which specializes in healing.
The combination of the sacraments and Scriptural keys for healing enable participants to take part in a gentle but vigorous renewal that promotes real growth.
This retreat offers spiritual and emotional healing for all women of any walk of life. The cost of the retreat is $170 or $100 for commuters.
Other offerings on the horizon at Immaculate Heart:
• On Wednesday, Sept. 15, Dr. Catherine Tkacz of Gonzaga University will present a Day of Prayer titled “Women as Types of Christ: Traditions of the Church Fathers.”
Topics will include Typology in the Old and New Testaments and Women as Types of Christ, identifying eight women from Scripture.
The people of the Old Testament learned that God communicated with them not only through prophecy in words, but also through certain people, events and things in which the Lord had put an imprint, or type, of himself that would help them recognize the Messiah when he came. Jesus continued this use by indicating that he himself fulfilled those types, which began to include women and Gentiles, and served to remind the faithful that the individual human person is called to be Christlike and holy.
Dr. Catherine Tkacz has lectured at Oxford and is a Blackfriars Special Lecturer.
The cost of the Day of Prayer is $30 with a schedule of rosary, and conferences, with time for questions and reflection, as well as confessions, lunch, and Mass.
• On Tuesday, Sept. 28, IHRC will host its ninth Catechetical Evening of Prayer, with Father Darrin Connall, rector of Bishop White Seminary in Spokane.
Father Connall will speak on Chapters 25-27 of the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults. Topics include the First, Second and Third Commandments.
The cost for an Evening of Prayer is $35. The evening begins with Mass at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 5:35. Conferences start at 6:30 p.m., including time for reflection as well as questions.
• Saturday, Oct. 2, will be a Day of Prayer with Father Rory Pitstick, a priest of the Spokane Diocese on the faculty of Mount Angel Seminary in Oregon.
The title of this Day of Prayer is “PR4:Prayerful, Practical Preparation for Proclamation.” Though directed toward those engaged in the ministry of lector, anyone might benefit from the conferences, which will focus on growing in knowledge and familiarity with the Sacred Scriptures, reflecting on the privileged role of the lector in proclaiming anew the Word of the Lord, recognizing and capitalizing on resources God provides to reverently incarnate his Word, and by learning effective techniques from practical experience.
The day is scheduled for 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at a cost of $30. The day includes recitation of the rosary, conferences, times for questions and reflection, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, lunch, and Mass.
