‘Vigil for Life’ for condemned prisoner is Sept. 9
the Inland Register
(From the Sept. 9, 2010 edition of the Inland Register)
Catholic Charities and Gonzaga University are sponsoring a Vigil for Life on Thursday, Sept. 9, at Crosby Center on the GU campus, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The vigil is in response to the plans of the State of Washington to execute Cal Coburn Brown at 12:10 a.m. on Sept. 10, for a 1991 murder in King County.
If it is carried out, Brown’s will be the first execution in the state since 2001, and only the fifth execution since capital punishment was legalized again in 1976.
According to a press release from Catholic Charities, the prayerful vigil will witness “to the sacredness of all human life,” including prayers not only for Brown but also for Holly Washa, his victim, and all others whose lives are lost to violence in any form.
