Francisca Chau, a senior at Gonzaga Prep in Spokane, has been named the recipient of the 2010 YWCA Young Woman of Achievement Award.
Chau is the daughter of Anna Nguyen and Lan Chau, Spokane.
The YWCA Young Woman of Achievement Award honors young women who have a record of exemplary community service.
Neil Kempen, Director of Community Service at Gonzaga Prep, nominated Chau for this award. According to Kempen, “Francisca does so much I think her day has to be at least five hours longer than mine. I wouldn’t have the stamina to accomplish all that she does on a daily basis.”
Chau’s commitment to community service and active involvement in school are evident in her list of accomplishments: Francisca has been elected president of the student body (only the third young woman to become Gonzaga Prep student body president); has lettered in Community Service two years in a row (and may letter again this year); has been a volunteer at Holy Family hospital; has volunteered with the Sisters of Charity; and has volunteered at Second Harvest Food Bank, as well as other Gonzaga Prep service groups and her parish.
Chau will be honored at a YWCA benefit luncheon on Wednesday, Oct. 27 in the Spokane Convention Center Ballroom.
