New vestments blessed

the Inland Register

(From the Jan. 13, 2011 edition of the Inland Register)

On Dec. 28, Father Lucas Tomson, pastor of Our Lady of the Valley Parish, Okanogan, blessed the church’s new red chasuble and stole, and wore them for the first time to celebrate the Feast of the Holy Innocents. The new vestments were contributed by the parish’s quilting group, with the help of the Women’s Guild. Ida Laurie (left) leads the Quilters in cutting, sewing and tying quilts, which are then sold, with proceeds benefitting special projects or needs of the parish. The vestments were dedicated to the memory of Ida’s husband Bernard Laurie, a member of the Okanogan valley church for over 60 years who passed away last April 1. Bernard was also considered a member of the Quilter’s group since he was usually surrounded by all the in-progress quilts at home, and he constructed the quilting frames. The other members of the parish quilters group are Cherie Conner, Georgia Thompson, Anna Jackson, Joyce Pecha. Also holding the vestment is Ida’s daughter, Phyllis.
