(From the Feb. 3, 2011 edition of the Inland Register)

Mercy Volunteer Corps (MVC), a lay volunteer program sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, provides opportunities for men and women over the age of 21 to give a year of service to those in need.

For the past 30 years MVC has been transforming lives, perspectives, and the world. The emphasis of the program is service, community and prayer.

Volunteer possibilities include teaching or nursing, working in homeless shelters, clinics and social service agencies in urban and rural settings throughout the United States and Guyana. Room, board, medical insurance and a small stipend are provided. Loan deferments are available. Volunteers are entitled to the AmeriCorps Education Awards, as well.
