Grief, Holy Week retreats slated next month at Immaculate Heart

Immaculate Heart Retreat Center (IHRC), 6910 S. Ben Burr Rd. in Spokane, will hold an Evening of Prayer on Tuesday, March 29 with Father Robert Turner. This is the third event in the Catechetical Evening of Prayer Series on the Sacraments.

The evenings are scheduled for the last Tuesday of each month of 2011.

Father Turner, pastor of the parishes in Dayton, Waitsburg, and Pomeroy, will speak on Confirmation, the second of the Sacraments of Initiation, going deeper into the study begun last year on the entire catechism. No previous knowledge is necessary.

The cost is $35 per person.

The evening begins with Mass at 5 p.m., followed by dinner, conferences, time for reflection and questions, and concluding by 8:45 p.m.

Next month, Father Stan Malnar MD and Jim Shaw MD will lead a retreat titled “Living through Grief.”

Dr. Shaw is Director of Ethics at Providence Center for Faith and Healing in Spokane.

The retreat begins Friday, April 1, and concludes Sunday, April 3.

The two experienced physicians will assist participants in not only managing grief, but also helping process wounds and sorrow, passing through sadness and woundedness to joy.

The cost is $185 per person, $280 for couples, and $100 for commuters.

April 18-20, Immaculate Heart will offer a Holy Week retreat for women, followed by a Holy Week retreat for men April 21-23.

The retreats, by Bishop Emeritus William Skylstad, have as their theme “Meeting the Face of Christ.”

The cost of the retreat is $185 per person, and $115 for commuters.
