Two Dominican Sisters celebrate 50 years of Religious life

Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters Marilyn Kruse and Elizabeth Ann “Betty” (Erica) Kugi will celebrate their 50th jubilee in July 2012.
A Mass will be celebrated in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa Mound, Wis., on Sunday, July 15, for them and 17 other Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters celebrating 50 years.

Much of Sister Marilyn’s ministry has been dedicated to nursing and pastoral care.
In the Diocese of Spokane, Sister Marilyn ministered at Mt. Carmel Hospital, Colville, as a nurse, 1970-1972, and as a pastoral assistant, 1982-1983.
Since 1972 has served in Spokane itself, including pastoral care at Holy Family Hospital, 1972-1979; visitor at Hospice Maran Atha and Veteran’s Hospital, as well as house coordinator for Provincialate Convent, 1979-1982; parish visitor at Pure Heart of Mary Parish, 1983-1986; tutor, 1987-1997, and parish visitor, 1989-1997, at St. Patrick Grade School and parish; and volunteer at the Dominican Center, 1997-2001.
Sister Marilyn also ministered in the Helena Diocese as a nurse at St. Mary Hospital, Conrad, 1962-1970.
She now lives in community at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis.

Sister Betty’s home parish is St. Rose of Lima, Milwaukee, Wis., in the Milwaukee Archdiocese. She is the daughter of the late Louis and Johanna (Kattnig) Kugi.
Most of Sister Betty’s ministry has been dedicated to teaching and pastoral work.
In the Diocese of Spokane, Sister Betty ministered in various support staff positions at the Dominican Center, Spokane, 2002-2009.
She also ministered in the Archdiocese of Chicago, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings, and in the Diocese of Madison, Wis., where she has served as assistant archivist at the Motherhouse in Sinsinawa, since 2009.
She has also ministered in Texas, Minnesota, and Idaho.
