May crowning

the Inland Register

(From the June 21, 2012 edition of the Inland Register)

Sunday, May 6, marked the official blessing of “Mary’s Garden” and the traditional Mary Crowning at Holy Rosary Parish in Tonasket. The garden is the result of several years of work and many donations. Last year, the post-sacrament boys’ class, taught by Suzanne Dailey Howard, cultivated a garden space between the church and hall and planted donated roses and perennials. Space was left for future inclusion of a statue. This past month, a beautiful statue of Mary and a concrete bench were donated by the Bretz family. “Mary’s Garden” is now a place where anyone can come to pray and meditate, and it is a restful spot for all in the community and all passing through. Each child chose a flower to carry in procession, while all parishioners, young and old, joined in singing and prayer. Cristien Zarazua led the procession carrying the floral crown resting on a satin pillow, followed by Cinthya Calderone, who crowned the statue. Both are receiving the sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist on May 25, to be administered by Bishop Blase Cupich. Father David Kuttner, pastor, blessed the image of Mary. Parishioner Ann Figenshow led the gathering in prayer. The May crowning concluded with the singing of “Immaculate Mary.” (IR photo courtesy of Suzanne Dailey Howard)
