Father Matt Larsen named pastor of Assumption Parish, Spokane

Father Matthew Larsen, parochial vicar of St. Mary Parish in Spokane Valley, has been named pastor of Assumption Parish, Spokane, effective July 1.

Father Larsen was ordained a priest of the Spokane Diocese on June 26, 2009, and was assigned to St. Mary Parish.

He grew up in Deer Park, Wash., and graduated from Gonzaga Prep.

After earning bachelorís degrees in biology and English from Gonzaga University, he graduated from Gonzaga School of Law, passed the Washington State bar exam, then worked as legal counsel for a mortgage brokerage firm in Spokane Valley before becoming a public defender in Okanogan County.

He studied theology at The Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., with an emphasis on canon law.
