St. Peter Parish’s blood drive recognized
the Inland Register
(From the July 19, 2012 edition of the Inland Register)
On Wednesday, May 9, at the “Heroes for Life 2012 Recognition Banquet” held at the Davenport Hotel in downtown Spokane, St. Peter Parish of Spokane received the honor of having their blood drive coordinator recognized as Blood Drive Coordinator of the Year, for blood drives held at a church regardless of religious affiliation.
Jim Mansfield, retired Dean of Admissions from Gonzaga University, has coordinated the blood drives at St. Peter for the past eight years.
The Inland Northwest Blood Center’s statement read, in part: “Jim’s dedication and attention to detail in planning and implementing blood drives at Saint Peter’s has given rise to one of the most successful church blood programs in our region.”
Last April, St. Peter hosted their 25th blood drive since the program’s inception in 2000. During that time, donors have given more than 1,000 units of life-saving blood to augment their own account, as well as those in the wider Spokane community.
A unit of blood helps up to three people, which means that blood drives at St. Peter Parish have aided more than 3,000 people in receiving the gift of life.
The region served by INBC encompasses an area approximately150 miles in circumference, serving 35 different hospitals.
St. Peter Parish hosts two blood drives a year. The next is scheduled for Sept. 16, in the church hall.
The parish is located on South Freya, between 18th and 19th.
