Bishop Blaise Cupich returned to St. Mary Presentation Parish to celebrate a special Mass as one of the parish’s Centennial celebration of “One Hundred Years of Sacraments.”
St. Mary Presentation Parish’s Centennial Celebration, which began at the Easter Vigil Mass on April 7, will be a year-long event, with activities planned throughout the coming months.
The first Mass celebrated in the parish was April 7, 1912.
Several events have already taken place. The parish has received a papal blessing. The community has hosted an old-fashioned tea for the ladies of the different churches in the area, and celebrated Mother’s Day with the crowning of Our Lady by the children of the parish, many of whom wore old-fashioned dress.
The centennial opening on April 7 was a joyful celebration of the Easter Vigil, welcoming new members into the church family, and the beginning of the parish’s second 100 years.
Bishop Blase Cupich presided at an evening Mass on Tuesday, May 22. At this Mass, with the theme “Celebrating One Hundred Years of Sacraments,” parishioners representing key milestones in the parish’s history were honored and blessed by the bishop. The bishop also confirmed and then welcomed at Eucharist six of the parish’s young members.
The bishop recognized and blessed members of the parish who represented One Hundred Years of Sacraments. Pictured above, from left:

Three sons of the parish have been given to the priesthood and Religious life: Fathers Matthew Larsen and Dan Wetzler of the Spokane Diocese, and Cistercian Brother Todd Koesel.
Upcoming events include a pig roast and an old-time parish picnic (with a beard growing contest.) Also planned are the planting of 100 trees and shrubs around the church grounds – some 36 of them have already been planted.
The parish plans to participate in Deer Park’s summer festival – Settlers Day – in late July. There will a new parish directory published, and the parish’s “World Famous” yard sale in September.
A group of parishioners will participate in a centennial pilgrimage to Lourdes, France, and Fatima, Portugal, in October. Other activities are still in the planning stage.
