(From the July 19, 2012, 2012 edition of the Inland Register)

Immaculate Heart Retreat Center (IHRC) continues the year-long study program “Catholicism” for adults on Tuesday, July 31, with a program titled “The Mystical Union of Christ and His Church.”

On Aug. 28 the program will be “The Mystery of the Church’s Sacrament of Worship.”

The evening sessions begin at 5:30 p.m. with dinner and end by 8:30 p.m.

Facilitated by the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Church, the series continues on a monthly basis through December 2012 on the last Tuesday of the month, except Dec. 18.

The cost per session is $20 per person.

• In August, IHRC is hosting a mid-week event designed specifically for seniors 55 and older. “Summer Senior Days” is scheduled on Wednesday, Aug. 1, from 11:45 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Guests will enjoy lunch, social time, live music, outdoor games and facility tours.

Cost is $10 per person. Individuals and groups are welcome.

• The Retreat Center will be offering an Icon-Writing Retreat/ Workshop Monday-Saturday, Aug. 6–11.

The retreat, titled “Portal to Eternal Life: Writing Icons through Prayer” will be led by Pat Lipetzky, an artist, iconographer, and a Third Order Franciscan.

Lipetzky has written icons throughout the country for more than 16 years. She studied iconography in the Byzantine style under Franciscan Sister Clairvaux McFarland; with Vladislav Andre-yev, internationally known Master Iconographer; and Nikita Andreyev, Master Iconographer in the Byzantine Russian styles.

Lipetzky teaches with egg tempera technique on gesso. By focusing on the spirituality of iconography through reflection and prayer, each participant will write his or her own icon during the retreat.

Participants should wear comfortable clothing. Cost of the five-day retreat is $575/person, which includes all materials. No prior art experience is needed; however space is limited. A $100 deposit ($75 refundable) is required in advance.

• Jesuit Father Armand Nigro will lead an eight-day Ignatian Retreat Aug. 12-19 at IHRC.

Retreats cost is $78 per day with meals and lodging.

Father Nigro is an accomplished spiritual director who has served in spiritual ministry since 1957, giving workshops and working with the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius throughout the Northwest. In the Ignatian tradition, Father Nigro will guide sessions on the Exercises, provide spiritual direction and celebrate Mass.
