Still ‘daring to be different’ 65 years later

the Inland Register

(From the July 19, 2012 edition of the Inland Register)

The Marycliff High School Class of 1947 celebrated their 65th reunion with a luncheon June 21 at Riverview Terrace Retirement Center. Many of the classmates have kept in touch by phone, mail, in person, and via email over the years, and many have traveled from other parts of the country for special reunions. Traditionally the classmates get together every summer for a picnic and every Christmas season for a luncheon. This continuation of friendship is rare in today’s world, but the ladies uphold and renew the motto given them in 1947 by Spokane’s Bishop Charles D. White: “Dare to be different.” From left in the front row are Rita Riordan, Helen Messer, Phyllis Forester, Kathleen Buckley, Maxine Keogh, Rita Tollefson, Dorothy Ray, Myrna Knudson. In the back row, from left, are Elsie Moore, Lorraine Schubert, Mary Ann Agnew, Madeleine Durkin, Mary Conley, Geneva Moloney, Florence Robinson, Catherine Bradley, Corrine Chasse, Donna Smith, Betty Jean Fulks, and Holy Names Sister Jeanette Wood.
