Former Spokane woman admitted to novitiate
the Inland Register
(From the Sept. 20, 2012 edition of the Inland Register)
On Aug. 10, Shaina Winger, a former parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Spokane, was admitted to the novitiate of the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration after completing a year of postulancy.
During the investiture ceremony, held at the Sisters’ Mother House in Mishawaka, Ind., the Franciscan habit was blessed by the chaplain and presented to her by the Provincial Superior, Sister M. Angela Mellady. While the community sought the intercession of the Blessed Mother through the rosary, Shaina was robed in the habit and white veil before returning to chapel to pray Midday Prayer.
Subsequently, the Provincial presented her with a crucifix, a copy of the Rule and Constitution of the Community, Liturgy of the Hours book, and her new Religious name, Sister Mary Anthony of St. Joseph.
Sister will spend the next two years growing in her relationship with Christ through prayer, studying about Religious life, and experiencing this through community life and the apostolate. (IR photo courtesy of the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration)
