Celebrating a new saint

the Inland Register

On October 19 the students at St. Charles School, Spokane, presented the play Maid of the Mohawks, about the life of Kateri Tekakwitha, in celebration of her canonization Oct. 21 as the first Native American saint. (Editor’s note: See “Pope proclaims seven new saints, including first Native American, page 10 of this issue.) Pictured are Luke Cronin as Father James; Thomas Van Bommel as Iowerano, Kateri’s uncle, who raised her; Kaitlyn Toland as Karitha, Iowerano’s wife; Kailey Percival as the young Kateri; Alicia Suggs as Arosen, Iowerano’s sister; and Maricella Bradbury as a woman of the tribe.
