Mass on the Mountain

the Inland Register

(From the December 20, 2012 edition of the Inland Register)

On Saturday, Nov. 10, Father Jeff Lewis, parish administrator of St. Mary of the Rosary Parish in Chewelah, celebrated Mass at the 49 Degrees North ski lodge on Chewelah Peak as a ceremonial kick-off to the ski season. The daily Mass was offered on the Memorial of St. Leo the Great, and about 25 people attended. St. Mary parishioners John and Gina Eminger hosted the “Mass on the Mountain” event as the owners of the ski lodge, and their close friends and ski lodge managers, Eric and T.O. Bakken, members of Holy Ghost Parish in Valley, provided the music for the Mass. Father Lewis, who wants to make the “Mass on the Mountain” an annual tradition, hopes that the event at the ski lodge will raise the profile of the Catholic Church in Stevens County and encourage more people to come to church and experience the Catholic faith.
