ACA 2013: Making a Pledge
the Inland Register
(From the January 17, 2013 edition of the Inland Register)
Making a Pledge: Pledges and contributions are made to the “Annual Catholic Appeal 2013.” All contributions are deposited in a special Diocesan Ministries Fund, a stand-alone legal entity with 501(c)3 tax exempt status which was created two years ago to receive all ACA contributions. The funds are not to be co-mingled with diocesan financial assets. A special board of directors controls and oversees the distribution of the funds and is legally and morally obligated to follow the intention of donors contributing for the purpose of the ACA 2013. Following the intention of donors, these funds can only be spent to support our various Catholic ministries.
Individual Retirement Account (IRA) Qualified Charitable Rollover provision: This allows individuals aged 70˝ or older to make charitable donations directly from their IRA without recognizing income. The prior law expired on Dec. 31, 2011, but Congress just reinstated it retroactively for 2012 and extended it for all of 2013. Thus, for those aged 70˝ or older can make a charitable donation directly from their IRA to the ACA between now and Feb. 1, 2013, and may choose to have it treated as a Qualified Charitable Rollover for 2012. Finally, the Qualified Charitable Rollover provision is in effect for all of 2013, so we encourage you to consider taking advantage of this highly beneficial tax rule, and use your IRA to help support our mission.
