A Catholic Schools Week thank-you

During Catholic Schools Week, St. Mary School, Spokane Valley, celebrated their students for a day. The students got to wear “Free Dress” and were served a breakfast of pancakes, ham and juice by school staff and the parish’s Knights of Columbus. Catholic Schools Week – Serving Others!

The Student Council at Assumption School, Spokane, held a toilet paper drive to kick off Catholic Schools Week. The students collected 2,874 rolls to donate to Catholic Charities. The toilet paper pyramid was on display for all to see at the school pep rally. Students assisted Scott Cooper from Catholic Charities with helping load all the rolls into his vehicle for delivery. An artful celebration in Clarkston

On Tuesday, Jan. 29, the Valley Art Center came and gave the children of Holy Family School, Clarkston, their own private art lesson. Each child was able to work with an artist, using pastels to color an apple which they got to take home. (IR photo courtesy of Holy Family School)

Raising the standards

On Feb. 4, Gonzaga University Celebrated Catholic Schools Week with the theme “Raise the Standards.” GU’s President, Dr. Thane McCulloh, and Education Department Dean, Dr. Jon Sunderland, hosted Bishop Cupich, Schools Superintendent Dr. Duane Shafer, along with students, parents, and administrators representing the 17 Eastern Washington Catholic Schools. Shelby Kriegh, an 8th grade student at St. Charles School, Spokane, presented a speech highlighting the spiritual and academic benefits of a Catholic education.
