Catholic Youth Celebration returns to Inland Northwest April 26-27
the Inland Register
(From the February 21, 2013 edition of the Inland Register)
After a two-year absence, the Diocese of Spokane’s Catholic Youth Celebration (CYC) returns April 26-27, hosted by Gonzaga Prep in Spokane and coordinated by Deacon Paul Heric of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes.
This year’s theme is from Matthew 28:19 – “Go Make Disciples of all the Nations” – the same theme selected by Pope Benedict XVI for World Youth Day later this year in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.
The event is open to members of parish youth groups in grades 9-12 from throughout the Inland Northwest. Past CYC events have attracted youth groups from Idaho, Oregon, and Canada.
Guest speaker this year is Father José Robles-Sanchez (left), a priest of the Diocese of Alexandria, La.
Besides being pastor of Alexandria’s St. Frances Cabrini Parish, Father José spends part of each year speaking at Catholic youth conferences across the United States.
Music will be provided by Dennis Zender (right), a Catholic who serves as music minister at Holy Cross Parish in Lake Stevens, in the Seattle Archdiocese. Zender has released several original music recordings focused on the spiritual life and growth in the Catholic faith.
CYC 2013 begins Friday evening, April 26, with registration from 5:30-7 p.m. Bishop Cupich will greet everyone at 8:30 p.m.
Father Robles-Sanchez will give several talks during the two days, on topics such as “Do You Know the Master?” “Do You Have the Courage?” and “Go and Make Disciples!”
Participating youth must register through a parish youth minister or youth program.
Cost of the conference is $40/person, which includes lunch on Saturday.
For those planning to stay overnight, housing is being coordinated by Jeanette Benson, youth minister at Sacred Heart and St. Augustine parishes in Spokane and St. Mary Parish in Spokane Valley. Contact her via email at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 509-290-4548.
Register through parish youth ministers by April 12. For more information, contact Deacon Heric via email at email@example.com, or call (509) 358-4291.
