Junior chefs

the Inland Register

(From the February 21, 2013 edition of the Inland Register)

Eight Middle School Youth Group members from St. Mary Parish, Spokane Valley, prepared a Baked Potato Bar meal, with salad and Christmas cookies for Family Promise families who were staying at the parish in December. The youth gathered at 4:30 p.m. to have dinner ready by 6 p.m. The junior chefs were Sarah Minton, Rachel Stevenson, Sarah Dierks, Jasper Knutson, Ryan Hoctor, and Grace Priddy. Family Promise, formerly known as the Interfaith Hospitality Network, is a Spokane-area organization that works with many churches to house homeless families each week. They rotate each week the families stay at a different location. Churches in the community may not be able to support through housing families, but they help by providing volunteers to stay overnight, prepare meals, and so forth. For each night, a family or individuals (in the case of St. Mary Parish, the youth group) prepare dinner for a specified number of people. (IR photo courtesy of Jeanette Benson)
