IHRC’s Days of Prayer scheduled throughout summer months
the Inland Register
(From the May 16, 2013 edition of the Inland Register)
Monthly Days of Prayer have been scheduled through the summer months at Immaculate Heart Retreat Center (IHRC).
Each of the days begins at 9 a.m. and concludes at 3 p.m. The days include recitation of the rosary, conferences, opportunities to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Mass, lunch, and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Cost is $35/person; advance registration is requested.
Upcoming Days of Prayer include:
Wednesday, May 22: a Marian Day of Prayer, by Deacon Jack Crandall: “Our Lady of Lourdes and Healing.” The day includes crowning of a statue of Mary and blessings with holy water from Lourdes.
Wednesday, June 12: a Day of Prayer on the Year of Faith, with the theme “The Year of Faith: Know, Love, Live and Share the Faith,” by the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Church. The day includes veneration of a relic of St. Peter the Apostle, and the recitation of the Credo of the People of God.
Wednesday, July 17: a Day of Prayer on the theology of the Body of Blessed John Paul II, titled “In His Image: Human Love in the Divine Plan,” by Father Kevin Oiland, pastor of the parishes in Connell and Eltopia and the mission in Basin City.
Participants will receive a holy card of Blessed Pope John Paul II and recite a special prayer of Blessed Pope John Paul II.
• On Friday-Sunday, May 31-June 2, IHRC hosts its semi-annual Serenity 12-Step Retreat, titled “Keep It Simple and Use the Steps: A Weekend of Practical Spiritual Practice,” led by Jesuit Father Tom Weston.
Father Weston will focus on the practical steps and tools for recovery from alcoholism and addiction and assist participants as to what can fill the void once one has made a decision of healing. Alcoholics, addicts, friends and family members are all most welcome to come.
The conferences will concentrate on recovery and how to gain serenity in the midst of addiction, remaining clean, sober and useful. This retreat will also provide two breaks for open 12-Step Meetings.
The weekend begins after dinner on Friday at 6 p.m. and extends through lunch on Sunday. Retreat cost is $185 for singles or $280 for couples and $100 for commuters. Early registration is recommended; some scholarships are available.
• Kathy Moore returns IHRC for a weekend healing retreat for men and women on Friday-Sunday, June 14-16.
The retreat is titled “Greater Things You Shall Do in My Name.”
Belief in the power Christ has us does not come easily to the wounded persons who have been hurt by the world and by loved ones. God’s Word has the power to produce love, freedom, joy, self-abandonment and the trust in the Lord.
The retreat will include a special remembrance of Sister Mary Matthew Griffith, CSJP, who passed into Eternal Life on March 12, 2013 after committing to leading this retreat. Kathy Moore has assisted Sister Mary Matthew with her retreat work for many years.
• IHRC hosts a new approach to spirituality with “Speak Lord…: A 24-Hour State-of-Life Discernment Retreat for Young Adults,” under the direction of Father Jeff Core, on Friday-Saturday, June 21-22.
Father Core and others will discuss discerning one’s state in life, using such tools as the Ignatian discernment of spirits, deep prayer, and meditation.
The retreat is for single men and women, late high school and beyond, who are discerning a state of life. Presenters include a married couple, a single committed adult, a permanent deacon, and a Religious Sister.
Retreat Cost is $100. Advance registration is requested.
