Assignments change for two diocesan priests – seminary rector, Spokane pastor

the Inland Register

(From the July 18, 2013 edition of the Inland Register)

Two priests of the Spokane Diocese have essentially changed places in terms of ministry assignments.

As of July 15, Father Bob McNeese, pastor of St. Augustine Parish in Spokane, became rector of Bishop White Seminary and Director of Seminarians.

Father Steve Dublinski, who has been serving as rector and seminarian director since July 1, 2011, has moved to St. Augustine as pastor.

As was the case when he was rector, Father Dublinski will continue to serve as the diocese’s Vicar General, in addition to his responsibilities as pastor.

Father McNeese (left) was ordained a priest of the Spokane Diocese on May 22, 1998.

He was born and raised in Spokane and graduated from St. Aloysius, Gonzaga Prep, and Gonzaga University.

Prior to beginning studies for the priesthood, he taught at Blanchet High School in Seattle for over 30 years.

He did post-graduate work at Gonzaga, Seattle University, and completed his priestly formation at the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn.

Father McNeese first served as parochial vicar at St. Mary Parish, Spokane Valley.

In August 2000 he was named pastor of the parishes in Colville, Kettle Falls, and Northport. He moved to St. Augustine Parish, as pastor, in July 2004.

Father Dublinski (left) was ordained to the priesthood June 29, 1985, after studies at Bishop White Seminary and the Pontifical North American College, Rome.

He was born in Chicago but grew up in Walla Walla, where he graduated from St. Patrick School and DeSales High School before spending one year at Walla Walla Community College. He then entered the priestly formation program at Bishop White.

He served as associate pastor of two parishes – St. John Vianney, Spokane Valley, and St. Charles, Spokane – before being named pastoral administrator of St. Charles Parish in October 1990. He was named pastor the following month.

Seven years later, he became pastor of St. Mary Parish, Spokane Valley, and in 2002, was named by Bishop Skylstad as Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia of the diocese.

Although he is no longer Moderator of the Curia, he has continued as Vicar General ever since.

In 2003 he began a two-year assignment as pastor of the parishes in Oakesdale, Rosalia, St. John, and Tekoa. Two years later, in July 2005, he became rector of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes in downtown Spokane.

He has served on the diocese’s Liturgy Commission for many years, and has completed a master’s degree in liturgy from the University of Notre Dame.
