On Thursday, June 13, the Chancery Quilting Ladies gathered at The Olive Garden North for a delightful luncheon to celebrate their 100th year of quilting in the diocese. Twenty-five ladies attended; all but three were either current or retired quilters.

The oldest member of the group was 94 years young. Several others were also in their 90s.

The tables were decorated with gold-ringed bud vases containing colorful snapdragons. The vases were a gift to each of the participants as a memorial of the special occasion. Following the luncheon, a history of the group was read.

Two ladies from Catholic Charities presented the Quilters with a lovely plaque, honoring them for their 100 Years of service.

Beautiful and useful door prizes were awarded, followed by drawings for the two quilts which were raffled.

The beautiful 80-year old hand-made quilted Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt was won by Carol Bosch, a former quilter with the group. Second prize, a block quilt in shades of blue made by the current members, was won by Cindy Dees, the daughter of one of the current quilters, Frances Frick.

The Quilting Ladies are taking a much-needed vacation until about mid-September, when they will again meet on Friday mornings from 8 a.m. to about 1 p.m.

Interested quilters and customers are encouraged to come by on that day. Quilts can be purchased or ordered and all the profit is donated to Catholic Charities.

The address is 25 W. 5th Ave., on the lower level of St. Anne’s Children and Family Center. Phone: (509) 232-1111 ext. 310.

As almost all of the quilters’ supplies are donated, they gladly accept slightly worn sheets and light-weight blankets, electric blankets, fillers and cotton yardage. Call either 487-4423, 328-5688, or 535-5948 for more information.
