Sister M. Celeste Glovka of the School Sisters of Notre Dame died Aug. 27, 2012, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Campus in Mankato, Minn. She was 98 years old.
A memorial Mass for her will be celebrated Tuesday, Aug. 27, at noon at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, 1115 W. Riverside Ave., Spokane. Father Darrin Connall, one of her former students, now rector of the Cathedral, will preside at the Mass.
The vigil was prayed Aug. 30, 2012. Her funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 31. Both took place in Good Counsel Chapel, Mankato, Minn. Burial followed at Good Counsel Cemetery.
She was born Oct. 3, 1913, in Windom, Minn. After the death of her mother she went to live first with an aunt, then with her maternal grandparents. The family moved to Mankato to be near the Catholic high school there.
She attended Good Counsel Academy for all 12 grades and entered her Religious community on Aug. 27, 1930. She professed her vows in 1933.
She taught at St. Joseph and Trinity schools, Spokane; Christ the King, Omak; Holy Family, Clarkston; and Guardian Angel/St. Boniface, Colton.
She held degrees from Holy Names College and Gonzaga University, Spokane.
She also ministered to the homebound in Spokane, by visiting in person and by phone.
On the occasion of her 75th jubilee in 2008, she wrote, “God has been very good to me over these 75 years as a School Sister of Notre Dame. I owe him great love and thanks.”
