Catholic Scout retreat cancelled for 2013; planning begins for next year

(From the September 19, 2013 edition of the Inland Register)
The Catholic Scout retreat scheduled for Sept. 13-15 was canceled as a result of low enrollment, according to Deacon Dan Glatt, chaplain for the Diocesan Committee for Catholic Scouting.
“I know that this is disappointing, but we have made many inroads with our Catholic Scouting community and interest is starting to grow,” said Deacon Glatt in making the announcement. “I believe the Inland Register is a huge help in getting the word out and we are thankful to Eric Meisfjord, the editor, for his support in getting our articles in the paper.”
Said Bob Smee, chairman of the DCCS: “Next year we intend to start building the event much earlier…. Much of the groundwork has been laid for next year. We hope to see you in 2014.”
Deacon Glatt also said that the Committee now has a supply of materials pertaining to awards for use by Catholic Girl Scouts.
Winners of the St. George Awards will be announced later this autumn.
According to the Boy Scouts’ web site, the St. George Emblem is awarded annually by dioceses to individuals, either laity or clergy, Scouters or non-Scouters, who “have made significant and outstanding contributions to the spiritual development of Catholic youth in Scouting.”
