Communications Office launches new program for Catholic radio
the Inland Register
(From the October 17, 2013 edition of the Inland Register)
The Diocese of Spokane’s Communications Office has begun production on a new interview program for Sacred Heart Catholic Radio, KTTO- 970 AM.
The program, titled The Joyful Catholic, premieres Friday, Oct. 18, at 6:30 p.m. before settling into its regular broadcast schedule of three times per week: Sunday, 3:30 p.m.; Friday, 6:30 p.m.; and Saturday, 7:30 p.m.
Each half-hour edition will air for two weeks, and then will be replaced with a show. The program’s scheduling mirrors that of Bishop Cupich’s ongoing radio broadcast, Time with the Bishop, which continues to air Monday, 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, 4:30 p.m.; and Saturday, 3 p.m.
The Joyful Catholic is co-produced by the diocese’s Communications Office and by Sacred Heart Radio.
Hosting the new program will be the diocese’s Communications Director, Eric Meisfjord, who co-hosts Time with the Bishop.
The program will feature interviews with Catholics – laity, clergy, Religious – about the way faith forms and informs daily life.
Meisfjord has been Communications Director since 1995 and editor of the diocese’s newspaper, the Inland Register, since 1985. He first worked for the diocese in 1983.
“Over the course of nearly 30 years of meeting Inland Northwest Catholics, I’m struck, over and over again, with the way people of faith simply are not gloomy,” Meisfjord said. “There’s a perception out there, perhaps, that people who live their faith are, frankly, glum. And that is never my experience. I want to tell some of those stories, let these people share their sense of hope, of joy, that their faith gives them, wherever they go, whatever they do.”
