The second annual Youth Minister retreat, sponsored by the Diocese of Spokane the weekend of Jan. 17-19 at Camp Lutherhaven in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, provided participants with a break and the opportunity to engage with God and their fellow ministers. The retreat was organized by Deacon Paul Heric.

This year’s presenter was Jake Khym, a counselor in private practice who also holds a degree in theology.

Khym has worked as an adult educator, pastoral counselor, sexual abuse counselor, and early childhood counselor.

In addition, music ministry was provided by Daniel Oberreuter of the Vancouver, Wash., Christian rock band The Thirsting, who will be providing music at next month’s Catholic Youth Celebration as well.

Father Caleb Vogel, vocations director for the Diocese of Boise, celebrated sacraments during the weekend.

The theme for the retreat was “The Path of Life,” focusing on the Paschal Mystery, a thought-provoking progression through the Passion, Death, Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus, and the parallels to be found in the lives of believers.

A total of 47 individuals attended the retreat, including nine seminarians at Bishop White Seminary.
