Deer Park, St. Francis of Assisi parishes organize October pilgrimages to Europe
the Inland Register
(From the March 20, 2014 edition of the Inland Register)
October will see members of two parishes of the Spokane Diocese participating in European pilgrimages.
During Oct. 19-31, St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Spokane is sponsoring “Italy, the Franciscan Way,” under the leadership of Franciscan Father Michael Blackburn, the parish’s pastor (pictured left).
The tour package includes roundtrip air fare from Seattle or Los Angeles; hotel accommodations; continental breakfasts and dinners (except in Rome), and more.
Mass will be celebrated daily. The Italian itinerary is structured around many of the sites that have played a major part in the history of the Catholic Church, including stops in Venice, Padua, Assisi, Siena and, of course, Rome.
Cost is $3,399/person, plus an additional $100 from Spokane, and an additional $700 for departure taxes and fuel surcharges.
The pilgrimage tour is part of the parish’s celebration of its centennial.
For information, contact the parish: 325-1321.
St. Mary’s Presentation Parish in Deer Park is also organizing a pilgrimage, to include Rome, Vatican City, and Assisi in Italy, and Krakow and Czestochowa in Poland. That pilgrimage is scheduled for Oct. 20-30. The parish’s pastor, Father Al Grasher (right), will lead the pilgrimage.
The group departs from Spokane Oct. 20 and flies to Krakow, Poland, via Frankfurt, Germany. Highlights in Poland include Krakow, the Black Madonna shrine in Czestochowa, and the Shrine of Divine Mercy.
Time in Rome will include the Sistine Chapel, catacombs, the basilicas, and a trip as well to Assisi.
Cost is $3,395, plus $700 for departure taxes and fuel surcharge, per person, for payment by cash or check. The credit card package price is $3,495, plus the $700 additional charge.
For more information about the pilgrimage, and a registration brochure, contact the Deer Park parish office: 276-2948.
