Gonzaga Prep designates Arrupe and Ignatian Scholars

the Inland Register

(From the March 20, 2014 edition of the Inland Register)

Each year the top 10 percent of the freshman class at Gonzaga Prep, Spokane, is invited to apply for the Arrupe Scholar designation, a renewable merit-based scholarship. The application is offered only to a select number of students based on an applicant’s placement test score, grade point average, and strong academic potential.

The scholarship is named for Jesuit Father Pedro Arrupe, who served as Superior General of the Society of Jesus from 1965-83.

The limited number of Arrupe Scholars is selected by a committee of administrators and teachers, with selection based on student test scores, essays, and recommendations.

Each Arrupe Scholar is awarded a $1,000 scholarship towards tuition each year, totaling $4,000 over their course of their four years at Prep.

Congratulations to the following students who received the Father Pedro Arrupe Merit Scholarship:

Athena Balenzano, Trinity; Frances Bertotti Metoyer, St. Aloysius; Faith Carlson, Holy Family; Sophia De Felice, Assumption; Donna Finger, All Saints; Erin Jones, St. Aloysius; Ilina Logani, St. George’s; Natalie Schwartzenberger, St. Thomas More; Alec Walter, St. Aloysius; Madely Zorich, St. Charles.

Those applying for, but not receiving, the Arrupe Scholar designation are awarded the Ignatian Scholar designation.

The following are honored as Ignatian Scholars:

William Bays, St. Mary; Chase Cash, St. Thomas More; Jaime Crain, Holy Family; Joel Dull, Chase Middle School; Blake Gibson, St. Mary; Emma Hagen, Cataldo; Eva Kennar, St. Mary; Kailee Kinney, St. Mary; Bridget Millsap, Odyssey Libby Center; Olivia Miranda, St. Mary; Andie Schmitz, Freeman Middle School; Logan Schuh, Odyssey Libby Center; Emmett Simmons, Cataldo; Carson Slick, Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy; and Brendon Wells, Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy.
