Tammy Evevard of Boulder, Colo., was keynote speaker for CYC 2014.
The 2014 Catholic Youth Celebration, sponsored by the Spokane Diocese, took place March 14-16 at Gonzaga Prep in Spokane.
About 250 people – youth and adults – took part in CYC this year, with the theme “Thirst. Encounter. Rejoice.”
This year’s keynote speaker was Tammy Evevard of Boulder, Colo.
Sharing the duties as masters of ceremony for the weekend were Evevard’s husband, Mark, and Erik Mertens, faith formation coordinator for Gonzaga University.
Music this year was provided by the Catholic rock music band The Thirsting, fronted by Daniel Oberreuter, out of Vancouver, Wash.
Music this year was provided by the Catholic rock music band The Thirsting, fronted by Daniel Oberreuter, out of Vancouver, Wash. Besides the music, band members interacted with weekend participants and engaged with the youth of CYC.
The weekend event drew participation from the wider Northwest, including the dioceses of Yakima and Boise, and of course youth from parishes scattered throughout the Spokane Diocese, including Spokane, Otis Orchards, Okanogan, Clarkston, Brewster, Harrington, Omak, Spokane Valley, Othello, Pullman, Newport, Medical Lake, and Suncrest.
Besides the speakers and musicians, youth themselves publicly shared their experiences of faith during the weekend.
The weekend included the Sacrament of Reconciliation and a closing Mass, celebrated by Bishop Cupich.
Attendance was about double that of 2013.
Deacon Paul Heric spearheaded organization of the weekend. This year’s success is already providing impetus for CYC 2015.
