Students in the religious education program at St. Peter Parish, Spokane, were treated recently to a “Mission Night,” featuring a presentation on Spokane’s Guatemala Mission, by Donna Connell and Judey Dacquisto of the Guatemala Commission. The 38 students saw pictures and learned a bit about the life of children in the Guatemala Highlands, and some of the programs sponsored by Eastern Washington Catholics to assist the Church in Guatemala.
In turn, the students presented a check for $303.89 to the women, for support for the religious education program in Ixtahuacán, Guatemala.
That program offers formation to over 500 children, grades kindergarten through sixth, from Ixtahuacán itself as well as 14 surrounding communities. Some children walk as much as two hours to attend classes taught by catechists Pablo, Alonzo, Theresa, and Pasquel.
Pictured with the students are Sisters Paschalina Marie Peters and Margarite Stringer of the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Church.
