Essay earns honors for St. Mary eighth grader

Bill Bays, an eighth grader St. Mary School, Spokane Valley, has been named the winner of a Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) essay contest, on both the state and regional (six-state) levels. He was sponsored by the Spokane Garry Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The DAR promotes education, historical preservation, and patriotism. One of the organizationís efforts is an annual American history essay contest, with topics decided by the organizationís national leadership.

He is the son of Stacy Bays and plans to attend Gonzaga Prep in the fall. His English teacher is Sue Harrell. He was sponsored by the Spokane Garry Chapter NSDAR.
