St. Joseph Parish, 4521 N. Arden Rd. in Otis Orchards, is offering a parish mission beginning Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 18-19, and continuing Monday–Wednesday, Oct. 20 – 22.

Leading the mission will be Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers. The deacon will preach at all Masses Oct. 18 and 19, and then will offer morning (9:30-11 a.m.) and evening (7-8:30 a.m.) talks Monday-Wednesday.

His topics for the daily sessions are “The Word of God: Understanding the Bible as a Catholic,” “The Mass in Sacred Scripture,” and “Go and Make Disciples: The Call to Evangelization.”

The parish mission is partly in response to Archbishop Cupich’s recent pastoral letter, “Joy Made Complete.” The first priority outlined in the letter is for parishioners to devote themselves to the teaching of the Apostles by improving faith formation and leadership development.

St. Joseph Parish’s Stewardship Committee is providing leadership and planning for this mission. The hope is to provide inspiration for parishioners to grow as good stewards of the Gospel. As Pope Francis says in his apostolic exhortation The Joy of the Gospel, “Before all else, the Gospel invites us to respond to the God of love who saves us, to see God in others and to go forth from ourselves to seek the good of others.”

The mission speaker is known around the world as the “Dynamic Deacon” and is one of the most sought-after speakers in the Church today. His no-nonsense approach to living and proclaiming the Catholic Faith is sure to challenge and inspire.

Deacon Harold travels across the U.S. and around the world speaking to people of all ages and from all walks of life who desire to know Jesus intimately and enjoy a deeper personal relationship with Him. He hosts weekly broadcasts on EWTN and numerous other national and international radio programs.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame, and a Master of Theological Studies from the University of Dallas. Retaining a deep love of Benedictine spirituality which he gained during his time discerning a call to that Religious community, Deacon Harold is a Benedictine Oblate of Mount Angel Abbey in Oregon.

There is no charge for attending; a free will offering will be taken at each talk.
