Students at Guardian Angel/St. Boniface School, Colton, used money from a December fund-raiser to purchase a doll for Taylor (right), who suffers from kidney disease. (IR photos courtesy of Guardian Angel-St. Boniface School)

During the month of December, students at Guardian Angel–St. Boniface School, Colton, sold “Angel grams” as a fundraiser. Angel grams are notes that a person could purchase for 25 cents. The purchaser would write a note to someone and the student council would attach a candy cane and deliver it to the lucky recipient. This was a delightful program in which many students, teachers, and even some parents participated in. The students not only warmed the heart of fellow classmates, but they had a larger goal. The money earned was to purchase an American Doll for a young lady in Lewiston.

In October 2014, Taylor, an 8-year-old girl, was diagnosed with Wilms, a pediatric kidney cancer. She immediately had a kidney removed and has been traveling to Spokane for chemotherapy treatments over the last few months. Taylor and her family were able to stop in and visit the students who presented her with the lovely doll. Father Joseph Sullivan (pastor of the parishes in Colton and Uniontown), students and staff prayed over and with Taylor for a complete recovery.

“Taylor was so surprised and excited to get an American Girl from Guardian Angel-Saint Boniface Catholic School in Colton, Wa. They had a fundraiser just to raise money to get her a special gift!” shared Jill, Taylor’s mother, on Facebook.

A benefit for Taylor will be held on February 21 at the Lewiston, Idaho, Elks Club, beginning at 5 p.m. with a chili cook off. A silent auction begins at 6 p.m. Adult beverages will be available. The lodge is located at 3444 Country Club Dr., Lewiston.
