The St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Uniontown was plotted before 1910 and has a grave that is dated 1883. There are over 1,078 graves within the current perimeter being maintained. The maintenance costs have been kept as low as possible over the years, with a majority of the work being done by volunteers and the Uniontown Knights of Columbus. As with most small towns, volunteers and donations often carry the weight of any community project.
We had reached a point where more time and money was spent in repairing the old existing sprinkler system than all of the other maintenance work combined. The existing system was installed in late 1961. It has more than served its useful life and has been patched to the point that was time to replace the system.
The Uniontown Knights of Columbus #1823 is conducting a fund raising drive to raise $17,000 to finance the project. Completing this project will result in less maintenance to the system, more efficient use of water and an overall improvement in the ground keeping efforts. The system is designed for easy maintenance and can be readily expanded in the future.
The installation was completed in late July and by mid-September the grounds were already looking much better.
We are sending this request for monetary donations to help finish the project in honor of all the family members, both immediate and in lineage, as well as to honor all of the veterans buried in their final resting place. Any donation will be gladly accepted.
If you feel any of your children would also be interested in helping us complete this project, please forward this request to them, since we have been unable to find addresses for everyone. Thank you for sharing this request with your families.
Donations should be made out and /or sent to:
Uniontown Knights of Columbus Council #1823
If you have any questions about the project please feel free to contact one of the Cemetery Board Members listed below.
