The third Annual Guatemala Celebration, hosted by the Diocesan Guatemala Commission, will be held on Monday, May 18, at Barrister’s Winery, on 1213 W. Railroad Ave., Spokane, from 5:30-8 p.m.

Honored guests will be Sister Janet Druffel of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, a missionary in Nahualá, Guatemala, for 53 years, and Father David Baronti, a priest of the Spokane Diocese serving in Ixtahuacán, Guatemala.

Sister Janet founded and taught at Colegio Nahualá, the Catholic school in Nahualá, as well as directing and serving on the Board of Directors for Nawal Estereo, radio station in Nahualá.

The evening will also feature a presentation from parishioners of the Catholic parishes in Walla Walla. All three parishes – St. Patrick, Assumption, and St. Francis of Assisi – generously support various programs in the diocese’s mission, including Colegio Nahualá and Nawal Estereo.

Items made by Mayans in the mission will be available for purchase and given away as door prizes. The drawing for the quilt “Jazzy Java in any language” will be held during the evening (winner need not be present).

There is no cost for admission, beverages (coffee, punch, water), and appetizers. Wine will be available for purchase.
