Boy Scout Troop 431, chartered by St. John Vianney Parish’s Knights of Columbus Council No. 8201 in Spokane Valley, was recently awarded a Chase Youth Award in the Teen Environment category.
Each year, Spokane’s Chase Youth Commission honors the community’s outstanding youth, teens and adults who are making a difference in the community or making positive choices. The awards highlight these positive role models for the community.
The troop has participated in several conservation projects at the Cowles Scout Reservation, including painting at Carbon Lodge and clearing undergrowth. The Cowles Scout Reservation is a key location at which Boy Scouts learn about conservation, camping and outdoor education programs.
In addition, several of the Scouts participated in a tree planting project with the Lands Council, planting trees along a completed portion of the North Spokane Corridor.
Other projects that the scouts have been involved with include Dishman Hills cleanup days, Snake River beach cleanup and habitat restoration, Turnbull Wildlife Refuge conservation projects, and St. John Vianney Parish grounds cleanup.
