“When You Pray for Rain, You Better Have An Umbrella!” is the title Jan Eberley has chosen for her presentation at St. Peter Parish’s fifth annual Pentecost celebration on Sunday, May 24, from 1:30-4 p.m.
St. Peter Church is on the corner of 18th and Freya in Spokane.
The event will include praise and worship in word and music, as well as prayer teams for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
Refreshments and fellowship will follow in the parish hall.
Eberley and her husband, Ron, former pastoral ministers at Sacred Heart Parish in Spokane, will be keynote speakers.
Ron will address the importance of intentional discipleship, based on Sherry Weddell’s book Forming Intentional Disciples: The Path to Knowing and Following Jesus. Praise and worship music will be under the leadership of Maggie and Mike Eller of St. Joseph Parish, Trentwood.
Father Miguel Mejia, pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Spokane, will give the welcoming address, and Andi McGoran of St. Peter Parish will MC.
The afternoon will conclude with coffee, punch, and cake to celebrate Pentecost, the “Birthday of the Church.”
There is no charge for the event, but a free will donation will be collected to help defray expenses.
The Eberleys have been involved in parish church life for several decades. Ron was a Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officer and an active member of more than a dozen Catholic parishes in Canada, involved in updating music and liturgy while implementing changes from Vatican Council II. He graduated with a master’s degree in pastoral ministry from Gonzaga University in 1992.
Later, he served in team ministry with Jan as pastoral associates at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Seattle. In 2005, he and Jan returned to Spokane, where they were part-time pastoral ministers at Sacred Heart Parish. Ron was involved in RCIA and adult faith formation at the Spokane parish.
Jan received her master’s degree in pastoral studies from Seattle University. She is a spiritual director, retired hospital chaplain, and retired pastoral associate. She presently leads a contemplative prayer group at Sacred Heart Parish.
