There is a difference between a pastor of a parish, and an administrator.

According to Father Mark Pautler, the Spokane Diocese’s Judicial Vicar, a pastor is appointed for a six-year term. An administrator does not have a fixed term, but can be removed at any time. In reality, a pastor can be moved prior to the expiration of his term, especially if he desires to move and the bishop is willing to transfer him.

Abbot Adrian was ordained a Benedictine priest of St. Martin Abbey in Lacey, Wash., on May 23, 1959. In 1980 he was elected abbot of that monastery. He came to the Spokane Diocese in 1989 and ministered at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes before he was named pastor of Mary Queen Parish, Spokane, in 1991.
