(From the June 18, 2015 edition of the Inland Register)

The volunteers of the Walla Walla Tri-Parish detention ministry make possible one Mass at each of the four chapels at the Washington State Penitentiary every month, in addition to Communion services, catechesis, and the sacraments of Reconciliation, Baptism and Confirmation as needed. They also provide reading materials to the inmates and visit men on death row. In addition to the priests, the ministry has grown from one lay volunteer in 2012 to the current group of 10, with training for several more lay volunteers underway. The spiritual hunger among the prisoners is great, and the detention ministry is more and more developing into a vital and integral part of parish life in Walla Walla.
