Spokane’s Mitch and Kathy Finley to be part of World Meeting of Families panel
the Inland Register
(From the August 20, 2015 edition of the Inland Register)
Philadelphia’s Archbishop Charles J. Chaput has invited Kathy and Mitch Finley (pictured, right) of Spokane to participate in the World Meeting of Families Sept. 22-27 in Philadelphia. They will speak as members of a panel presentation titled “Marriage Then and Now: The Expectations of Matrimony at the Birth of the U.S. Nation.”
According to the official description, “This panel explores historical developments in the understanding and experience of marriage in American culture. As we strive to be faithful to the perennial understanding of marriage presented by the Church, the example of remarkable couples like John and Abigail Adams can offer insight and inspiration. Our Catholic vision of the family as the domestic church serves as the foundation from which we will analyze current and past understandings of marriage as well as anticipate what we hope to see in the future.”
The theme of the World Meeting of Families is “Love Is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive.”
Pope Francis also is scheduled to attend the meeting.
Kathy Finley teaches a popular course on Christian marriage at Gonzaga University. Mitch is a former staff writer for the Inland Register. Kathy is the author of eight books, and Mitch, more than 30. Together they wrote Christian Families in the Real World, now published as Building Christian Families.
