A new grotto

the Inland Register

(From the November 19, 2015 edition of the Inland Register)

On Sunday, Oct. 11, St. Gall Parish, Colton, dedicated and blessed a new grotto that has was erected to protect a statue of Our Blessed Mother. Several years ago, a giant pine tree fell onto the then-existing grotto. The statue of Mary was undamaged, though buried under tree branches and dirt. The statue was carefully dug out and cleaned by students of Guardian Angel-St. Boniface School. A simple area with flowers replaced the grotto and Mary continued to hold her hands out to all who passed by. Recently, a generous gift from a parishioner was combined with funds from the St. Gall Endowment to rebuild a new grotto, protecting Mary from the wind and weather. Father Joseph Sullivan, pastor of the parishes in Colton and Uniontown, assisted by Maggie Meyer, blessed the grotto with many parishioners joining in the celebration.
