‘MERCY: Recognize, Receive, Reveal’ – Catholic Youth Celebration 2016
by Brian Kraut, for the Inland Register
(From the January 21, 2016 edition of the Inland Register)
This year’s Catholic Youth Celebration joins the greater Church in the celebration of the mercy of God.
In “The Church of Mercy,” Pope Francis exhorts: “Let the risen Jesus enter your life – welcome him as a friend, with trust: he is life! If up till now you have kept him at a distance, step forward. He will receive you with open arms. If you have been indifferent, take a risk; you won’t be disappointed. If following him seems difficult, don’t be afraid. Trust him, be confident that he is close to you, he is with you, and he will give you the peace you are looking for and the strength to live as he would have you do.”
This year’s Catholic Youth Celebration (CYC) will explore these words of Pope Francis, helping young people to recognize, receive and then reveal the Father’s mercy.
Friday-Sunday, March 4-6, high school youth from around the diocese will joyfully gather at Gonzaga Prep, Spokane, and join together in prayer seeking mercy.
All high school youth are encouraged to attend and be inspired by Bishop Thomas Daly, Mary Bielski, Daniel Oberreuter, and Matthew Sewell.
Mercy is not imposed, but is given to those who step out in faith.
For young people: step out and receive what God offers.
For others, step out and encourage a young person to attend CYC.
(For more information on attending or ways to help your parish group make CYC possible, please contact parish priests or youth ministers. Registration information and a promo video are available online: www.dioceseofspokane.org)
