Bishop Sevilla to lead Holy Week retreats at IHRC

Immaculate Heart Retreat Center (IHRC) continues its series “Coffee and Contemplation” with a session titled “Spiritual Practices for the Sick and Tired,” presented by Rev. Craig Goodwin (right), pastor of Millwood Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his ministerial duties, Rev. Goodwin is the author of the book Year of Plenty.
He was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma in October 2013. After a year of extensive treatment he is currently in remission. He will share from his experiences with cancer as a person of faith, and lead a discussion on finding hope-filled pathways through the spiritual wilderness of serious illness.
The program runs from 9-11 a.m. and includes warm beverages and rolls. Cost is $10 per person. Advance reservations are requested.
• This year’s Holy Week retreats will be directed by Bishop Carlos Sevilla SJ (right), Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Yakima.
The Women’s Retreat is scheduled for Monday-Wednesday, March 21-23. Registration is Monday at 4:30 p.m. and concludes with departure at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Men’s Retreat begins on Holy Thursday, March 24, with 4:30 registration, and concludes on Holy Saturday at 1 p.m.
Bishop Sevilla’s retreat is titled “Living Holy Week in Jesus.” Cost is $211/person; $125 for commuters. Cost will be reduced to $106/person if an attendee brings someone who has never before attended an IHRC retreat.
Bishop Sevilla was born in San Francisco, Calif. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1953, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1966. He obtained his Master’s degree in philosophy at Gonzaga University and his Master’s in theology in Santa Clara. He furthered his studies in Innsbruck and Paris. He was installed as sixth bishop of the Diocese of Yakima, Wash. in 1997.
