Sunday, May 29, is Corpus Christi Sunday, the annual Catholic celebration of the Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ that calls particular attention to the Real Presence of the Lord in the Eucharist.
In addition to the Mass itself, there is a tradition of a Eucharistic procession to further the celebration and worship of the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.
The procession has been a tradition at the historic St. Joseph Church at Jump Off Joe for decades, and the tradition continues this year with Mass beginning at 10 a.m., followed immediately by the Corpus Christi procession.
The procession involves four external altars on the church grounds (representing the four corners of the earth). Three of the altars have been cared for by prominent Jump Off Joe families for generations; the fourth is an altar dedicated to the unborn. The proclamation of Gospel readings and Benediction take place at each altar, with the final Benediction taking place at the main altar inside the church.
