Sister Theodora Feulner of the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration celebrates 75 years – her diamond jubilee – of vowed Religious life this year.
Sister Theodora was born in Spokane. She made her first profession of vows with the community in 1941. Then began her ministry of elementary education, teaching in Carroll, Iowa; Wausau, Wis.; Blackfoot, Idaho; and Bozeman, Mont.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing education with a minor in surgical nursing from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis., she became a nursing service director at St. Anthony Hospital (now St. Anthony Regional Hospital and Nursing Home) in Carroll and St. Francis Hospital (now Mayo Clinic Health System – Franciscan Healthcare) in La Crosse, Wis.
Sister Theodora then received a master’s degree in nursing administration from Boston University in Massachusetts, after which she served as director of nursing services at St. Mary’s Hospital in Sparta, Wis., from 1972 to 1975. She then returned to St. Francis Hospital and served for the next four years in nursing services.
In 1979, Sister Theodora moved to Spokane, where she cared for her mother, participated in Gonzaga University’s CREDO program, and served as a home health care nurse. From 1982 to 1991, Sister Theodora ministered as an RN and charge nurse at Spokane’s Holy Name Nursing Home and as a visitor for the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes until retiring to St. Rose Convent in La Crosse, Wis., in 2009.
Sister Theodora moved in 2012 to Villa St. Joseph, the FSPA skilled-care retirement home in La Crosse, where she resides today.
A jubilee celebration was held at Villa St. Joseph on May 11.
