Three decades of service to the Cathedral

the Inland Register

(From the June 16, 2016 edition of the Inland Register)

On June 1, Bill Oakley marked 30 years of service as Plant Manager for the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes.  Msgr. James Ribble, then rector of the Cathedral, hired Oakley away from a job at a local furniture store after observing Oakley’s conscientious work ethic in person. Thus began three decades of service to the Church under four different bishops and three different rectors. Father Darrin Connall, the current rector of the Cathedral, has nothing but praise for Oakley and his service. “Bill sees his role as more than just a job,” said Father Connall. “He views his position as a vocation, and that shows in everything he does.” Over the past 30 years Oakley has taken responsibility for snow removal in the early morning hours, accomplished complicated repairs, and supervised major projects, such as the installation of the Millennial Doors, the construction of the Wheeler Elevator Pavilion, and the recent renovation of the rectory and Cathedral Office complex. “I hope we can get 30 more years out of him!” said Father Connall. “He is one of a kind.” (IR photo courtesy of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes)
